Two Lake Placid breweries closed temporarily after employees test positive for COVID-19 – WPTZ

Multiple breweries in Lake Placid have voluntarily closed after two employees tested positive for the coronavirus. Essex County health officials on Thursday announced the temporary closure of Lake Placid Pub & Brewery and Big Slide Brewery & Public House as health monitoring continues. The cases present a low risk of exposure to the general public, according to health officials. “Our case investigation is ongoing and all contacts of the positive cases have received a call from the Health Department to discuss their risk and the measures necessary to reduce further infections,” stated Linda Beers, Director of Public Health for Essex County.Both employees were already in quarantine when the positive test results were reported to health officials. One was was symptomatic following exposure to the virus unrelated to the breweries and learned of their positive result earlier in the week. They may have made contact with staff members while contagious, according to the Health Department. The second employee was quarantining as a precaution after exposure to the first and was notified of a positive test result Thursday. Christopher Ericson, who holds at least partial ownership at both locations, said management will remain focused on assisting public health officials. “We have always worked diligently to maintain and exceed all mandatory COVID-19 safety procedures and we are taking all necessary steps to safely reopen after Nov. 16,” Ericson said. Essex County reported three additional cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the number of active cases in the county to 10. One-hundred-forty-six residents have tested positive for the virus since tracking began in March. The Health Department issues daily updates on its website and Facebook page.
